Free walking tours, food festivals, theatre, DC fashion week and the DC state fair; many fun and free things to do in the district this week and weekend.
Free walking tours – Starting this weekend and into next weekend, Cultural Tourism DC, is putting on a series of free walking tours covering history, art, and culture in the district. The tours are free to reserve, but each individual must reserve his or her own spot and you can make an optional donation to Cultural Tourism. Most of the ones this weekend are already full, but they run throughout the week (at lunchtime and in the evening) as well as next weekend.
DC Fashion Week – DC Fashion Week kicks off later this week with a free fashion industry networking party, including the Next/Gen designer fashion show on Thursday. Shows of different themes, such as the Emerging Designers show, a celebrity-themed event at Madame Tussauds Wax museum, and the International Couture Collections show at La Maison Française continue into next weekend.
Macbeth – The Folger Shakespeare theatre is putting on Macbeth until September 23rd. The show is pretty sold out at this point, but according to their website says that standing room is available for some shows and that tickets are available for new subscribers, so definitely check it out!
Taste of Georgetown – Washington DC’s “most anticipated epicurean festival” celebrates its 25th year next Sunday, September 23rd from 11 am – 4 pm. Over 30 of Georgetown’s best restaurants will be attending. Presale tickets are now available and tickets will also be available to purchase by cash or card onsite.
DC State Fair – The DC state fair is also next Sunday, September 23rd, at Southwest Waterfront. Admission is free to check out local music, art, entertainment, and food, a “daylong celebration of all things homegrown.” There will also be a pet parade; costumes “encouraged but not required.”
What are you doing this week?
